Wedding Photography

Our Approach - and why you should never choose that £350 Wedding Photographer...

I’ve been a photographer for over 20 years and have shot many hundreds of weddings in that time - and it's still something that I'm hugely passionate about!

We travel extensively throughout Scotland shooting weddings for discerning clients who value our level of personal care and attention to detail. For us, getting to know YOU as a couple makes our job easier, and our results better. We want to know what’s important in your day and we want to ensure that’s reflected in the images we shoot.

We’ll work with you in designing your day’s photography (times, locations, venues etc), pointing out possible issues as we go, and all in an effort to keep your day running on schedule. We’ll also meet up with your other service providers too (if required) and will report back to you on any possible issues arising from such meetings. The success of your day is as important to you as it is to us.

Our style is just that right mix of fun and informal shots that will help you bring back the memory of your day for years to come. From the Bride at home to the fun of the evenings entertainment, we’ll be there to capture it all. My superb people skills will ensure you get the shots that shine. Sometimes it’ll be staged, sometimes spontaneous, often unrehearsed but never dull – your photography experience will be one more memory for you to remember!

After the wedding, we’ll have your on-line gallery ready to view in 2-3 weeks. You will see it first and OK the images and once you do, the gallery goes live on our website. Your family and friends will be able to buy prints on-line too, and prices start at a reasonable £6.

We’ll follow up your gallery with an album design meeting, and we’ll send you album layout files to show you what we think we can do with your images. After we finalise a layout, your final album will be ready in 2 weeks maximum. We aim to get you a finished album within 2 months of your wedding date – but that’s up to you!

Your gallery on our website will remain live for 6 months after your wedding, allowing plenty of time for you and your guests to purchase items. We can also offer Parents albums at very reasonable rates, and offer discounts on multiple orders of any of our products. As well as prints, the website also offers framed prints, acrylics, canvas wraps and more – these are all delivered to your door and you pay on-line too. What could be easier?!

We even have a pricing structure to suit all pockets - our packages range from £750 to £2300 (date dependent) and we are happy to work with you in bringing your photography in on budget.

We cover the whole of Scotland and have shot weddings in some of Scotland's greatest venues - Edinburgh Castle, Balmoral Hotel, Turnberry Hotel, Enterkine House, Montgreenan Mansion, Glasgow University Chapel, Glenskirlie House and Castle, Oran Mor, Barony Hall, Airth Castle, Luss Parish Church, Lodge on Loch Lomond, Mar Hall, Gleddoch House, Brig O'Doon Hotel, Balbirnie House, Lochgreen House Hotel, Piersland House Hotel, Royal Marine Hotel Troon and many others around Scotland.

We also advertise in Scotland's finest Bridal magazines and are regular exhibitors at wedding shows and fairs throughout Scotland.

As SWPP/BPPA members we are also fully insured for both Public Liability and Professional Indemnity, and our discretion can be assured at all times.

As well as weddings, Andy Currie Photography also covers corporate events for clients including IBM, Scottish Power, Ramada Jarvis Hotels and BSkyB. My images sell worldwide and have graced the pages of many national newspapers and magazines. I also offer photographic tuition to other photographers and my personal work has been hung in the Dean Gallery, National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh.

Please take a look at the "Galleries" to see the style of images that we shoot. If you like what you see, why not send me a message via the "Contact" page or call me to arrange a wedding meeting or to enquire about the availability of YOUR date?.

The £350 Package - and why you should NEVER book it...

So you're looking at wedding photographers? - quite a choice, isn't there?

With prices in Scotland ranging from £350 to £10,000, it's clear that you've got a lot of work to do to establish your budget and get someone you like in on that budget!

Where pricing is concerned, we've often heard that "Jean's boy does weddings for £350". This generally means that someone is going to turn up ON THE DAY and shoot some pictures at your wedding. Is this what you REALLY want from your wedding photographer?

Here are the 10 questions you should be asking yourself about the people operating at this end of the market:

1 - Who exactly are these people - do you actually like them?
2 - Will they meet with you beforehand to help with planning or arrangements?
3 - Have you seen their finished work?
4 - Are they using professional photographic equipment? - and do they have backup equipment if the first set fails?
5 - Are they insured in case they damage your hire outfits, the venue or they screw up your pictures?
6 - Have they provided you with an itinerary of the day and how they see the timings for your photography fitting in with your schedule?
7 - Have they shown you EXACTLY what you'll get for your £350, and are you happy with it?
8 - Have they told you WHEN you can expect to receive the finished pictures?
9 - Are they a member of any bodies like the SWPP or MPA?
10 - Will they turn up for your wedding if they get a better offer from another bride?

If the answer to ALL or ANY of the questions above is NO, then this is why that person is charging you £350 - remember, in this world you don't get nothing for nothing...

In the case of a professional photographer, the answer to questions 1 to 9 is YES. As for question 10, well that's not even up for debate - we don't take the "best" offer for a wedding, we do them as they are booked on a first-come, first-served basis generally.

The most important statement you'll read on this website...

NOBODY IN THE UK CAN DO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY PROFESSIONALLY AND MAKE A LIVING AT IT BY CHARGING £350 FOR THEIR SERVICES.

Each wedding takes us around 40 hours to complete, from the earliest of meetings to the completion of orders after the wedding.

You are paying for your album, my time, my overheads (car, fuel, insurance, road tax, equipment and of course my taxes) and my considerable expertise to bring it all together to give you a set of memories you'll treasure for the rest of your life.

And that's NOT going to happen if I charge you £350 - do you now see where I'm coming from??....

The Wedding Catering analogy...

When you looked at venues and catering costs, you were presented with a range of possible menus and costs - right? Some were presented with wine, some without, or you could choose a specific bottle of at a certain price - anything you wanted basically and they would name you a price.

When they showed you the £40, £70 and £100 menus, did you ask them to show you the £10 menu choice? - no, I didn't think so...

We're no different. We'll offer you a range of products and costs and we can tailor things a bit to suit your budget or to get your business. But one thing we won't do is to lower our quality to a level where we're losing money by taking your business, and that's why we don't offer any packages at £350...

To Summarise...

- Professional people charge professional prices for a professional service. These people can be lawyers, doctors, engineers, architects, plumbers, gas fitters - but they all have their price and their reputation to consider.

- Cowboys don't charge realistic prices and don't care about service. They want your money and they want to move onto the next mug as soon as possible.

So don't be that mug - hire a professional photographer, and be realistic enough to know that your wedding photographer shouldn't be charging you £350 for their services...
